School Council Minutes January 12th, 2026

Principal’s Report:

-parent event: turnout wasn’t as expected, weather & illness

-ball hockey still going

-YOUTH Space, going around to classes to teach about compliments 

-pancakes days: a hit, 

-colouring club & volleyball, tutoring club happening- not open, selected students Grade 3/6 starts this week

Treasurer’s Report:

  • Playground balance: $1409.12 (balance), moms almost $1300, meet the staff Irv $130.00

Council Norms:

Marissa reminded members of norms that members need to follow at meetings and after. 

Fundraising:

Items purchased recently for school

-two 60” flatscreen SMART TVs and two stands (to replace 2 aging LCD projectors in the portapack)

- 6 touchscreen Chromebooks (to keep our tech collection current as tech ages out)

- 2 tech tub carts to safely store valuable technology in a primary classroom

School Lunches: Moving IRV down to 2 days in February 

Suggestions: less options, consider adding in hot dog days again 

Sub-Committee Updates:

Carnival Support

  • Feb 6th

- Council is helping with indoor crafts. We’ve been asked to purchase supplies 

-$500 rollover, maybe switch to our regular account to pay for supplies.

Valentine’s Day Dance, renaming to Friendship Dance (Friday Feb 13)

-suggestions of cookie decorating, or button making 

-special education teacher team leading

- shortening time for classes in gym based on last dance (from 1 hour to 45 minutes).

Communication to Community:

  • Survey from hot lunch program went out. 

36 responses, very positive feedback

Other Topics:

  • Market Candles: suggestions to have staff come to school so we can smell candles. Option to do this fundraiser next year.
  • Fresh From the Farm: option to do it next fall
  • Poinsettia’s:

Silent Auction:

     - no one “heading up” the event – agreed to use collaboration approach, begin early March

     - Staff will plan an Arts Night & Concert same time as silent auction 

     - May 7th

Next Meeting: March 2nd, 2026
